Double Shoulder:
Cold One® double shoulder ice wraps provide icing and compression to the front of the rib cage, over the upper chest, across the shoulders, down the upper back, and around the upper biceps for the effective treatment of over-worked and strained upper body joints and ligaments, such as:
The Cold One® double shoulder ice wrap may also be utilized as a mobile emergency device for athletes, coaches, trainers, and hospitals to rapidly lower core body temperatures in individuals suffering from heat exhaustion, hyperthermia, and heat stroke. Once frozen, the ice wrap can be transported to the practice field, marathon or event where it will maintain in its frozen state for approximately 8 hours in a frozen Cold One® Cooler (sold separately).
The Cold One® double shoulder ice wrap was designed at the request of Vernon Neville, the athletic trainer for the America’s Cup Italian sailboat racing syndicate, Luna Rossa Challenge. Neville utilized the vests for prevention and rehabilitation of his crew during the training and competing in the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup race. In a 2003 study conducted on America’s Cup crew members, Neville discovered that joint and ligament sprains in the upper body were the most commonly injured body segment. Since the incidence of injury was significantly higher in training than during sailing, it was essential to use cold compression therapy as part of their training regiment to reduce the risk of serious damage and crew member elimination from the race. Any athlete or individual exerting copious amounts of energy in the upper body will benefit from the cold compression of the vest.
All Cold One® ice wraps are ready-to-wear when frozen for up to two hours in a residential or commercial freezer and should be used a minimum of 2-3 times per day for maximum benefit.
Once applied, the gels will gradually thaw within 15-20 minutes - the length of time recommended by doctors and orthopedic therapists for effective healing - so there is no risk of damage from “over-icing” the tissues or cryoburn to the skin.
Orthopedic MDs and Physical Therapists recommend Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation for critical and chronic soft tissue injuries such as sprains, strains, torn and stretched ligaments.
The cold and compression stop pain and inflammation to the soft tissues and promote faster healing. Cold One® re-freezable ice wraps deliver cold and compression in a single, safe and easy to use neoprene wrap; a combination that drives the cold deeper than leaky ice packs, bags of frozen vegetables, or frozen chemical gel packs.
Cold One® cold compression therapy ice wraps are comprised of three low-bulk stretchable layers that drive the cold deep into ligaments and muscles. The outer layer of nitrogen blown neoprene provides insulation and prevents moisture build-up on the outside while the rubber impregnated linen of the inner layer also reduces interior sweating while protecting against cryoburn. The mid layer of strategically sewn in non-toxic flexible gels conform to the body’s curvature for a close comfortable fit while providing cold coverage where it’s needed most.
Constructed of non-toxic and non-hazardous FDA approved materials, Cold One® ice wraps are safe to use against the skin.
The durable, easy to care for ice wraps can be washed in a home dishwasher (top rack) and the inner layer can be disinfected with an anti-bacterial wipe if used for open wounds or post surgical applications.
The ice wrap should fit snug to get maximum benefit from the compression. The primary icing areas are the top, front and back of the upper shoulder and upper arm. All sizes have very stretchable straps so stomach and chest size is less important than a snug fit on the top of the shoulder. We have found body weight to be the most accurate measure of size.
